Fierce Sisters

Ingrid and Yvonne were thick as thieves in elementary school. They were inseparable and they played off of each other’s strengths. For example, Yvonne would complete Ingrid’s music homework assignments and Ingrid would write Yvonne’s book reports. Together, they were considered the brightest, as well as the toughest, on campus. Graduation approached and everyone was signing t-shirts and yearbooks and referred to them as the “Fierce Sisters!” However, the pressures of high school changed their friendship and ultimately broke their sisterly bond.
Twelve years after their freshman year of high school, the two girls meet again. While Ingrid was moving forward in line, she bumped into the person in front of her.
“Watch where you’re going!” yelled a girl dressed as Harley Quinn and who quickly spun around.
Ingrid started to apologize, but was interrupted.
“Ingrid? Is that you?” the pretend Harley Quinn asked in disbelief. Harley was Yvonne.
Both young women stood their staring at each other in shock for what felt a lifetime. Yvonne broke the silence by shouting, “Oh my gosh!” and wrapping her arms around Ingrid to embrace her long-lost friend.
Ingrid pulled herself away and asked with a puzzled face, “You’re not upset with me anymore?”
Yvonne let out a slight chuckle and responded, “We were young and in love with the same boy; we were foolish teenagers.”
“I’m sorry I never wrote you back in college.” Ingrid admitted as her head tilted downward in shame.
Yvonne cupped her never-forgotten friend’s face, held her head high and asked, “Fierce Sisters, right?” Ingrid’s eyes filled with joyous waters that streamed down her cheeks.
“Forever and always!” she exclaimed with a Kool-Aid smile. The two hugged and were sisters once again.
Fear is what makes love complicated, not love itself; true forgiveness is instant.
